It means that when you have a correct thought or make a smart decision, everyone will give you credit for it and support you within a heartbeat since they are for it, but when you make a few bad decisions that really tone you down to society or how family view you, or even your lover, all he wants is someone that will support him and love him wither way. Similar to the quote by Marilyn Monroe- "If you can't handle me at my worst, then you don't deserve me at my best." Or something like that.
