Somerset Neighbourhood Safe (Ottawa)?

I'm looking into buying or renting a place in the Somerset neighbourhood, near MacDonald and Gilmour, and close to the Canal. Is this a generally safe neighbourhood for a single female? I don't want to worry about walking home at night.
